Located in the heart of Colville, this commercial project was designed out of necessity following roof damage to an existing building built in the 50’s. Our goal was to conform to existing elements while surgically providing an addition to the damaged area. The owner’s goals were to keep things local and to give back to the community he grew up in resulting in close collaboration with a local heavy timber manufacturer just a couple of miles outside of town. This design is a direct reflection of heavy timber construction and its horizontal plane nature. Following close collaboration with the owner, this subtle play with strong horizontal planes and the warmth heavy timber technologies (CLT, GLM, etc.) provides this final scheme was the product of close coordination with all consultants and budget constraints.
